I was a big fan of "I, Robot" and "Robocop" , so I started to look for AI resources on the internet. I want to share all this with you!
The modern definition of artificial intelligence (or AI) is "the study and design of intelligent agents" where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions which maximizes its chances of success. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1956, defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines." Other names for the field have been proposed, such as computational intelligence, synthetic intelligence or computational rationality. The term artificial intelligence is also used to describe a property of machines or programs: the intelligence that the system demonstrates.
AI research uses tools and insights from many fields, including computer science, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, cognitive science, linguistics, operations research, economics, control theory, probability, optimization and logic. AI research also overlaps with tasks such as robotics, control systems, scheduling, data mining, logistics, speech recognition, facial recognition and many others.
The future of AI?
Strong AI is a term used by futurists, science fiction writers and forward looking researchers to describe artificial intelligence that matches or exceeds human intelligence. Strong AI is also referred to as the ability to perform "general intelligent action", or as "artificial general intelligence", "artificial consciousness", "sentience", "sapience", "self-awareness" or "consciousness" (although there are subtle differences in the use of each of these terms).
Some references classify artificial intelligence research into "strong AI, applied AI and cognitive simulation." Applied AI (also called "narrow AI" or "weak AI") refers to the use of software to study or accomplish specific problem solving or reasoning tasks that do not encompass (or in some cases, are completely outside of) the full range of human cognitive abilities.
I, Robot (2004)
I,ROBOT was directed by Alex Proyas (DARK CITY, THE CROW) and written by Jeff Vintar (FINAL FANTASY) and Akiva Goldsman (LOST IN SPACE, BATMAN & ROBIN, BATMAN FOREVER). Asimov is given a "suggested by" credit (i.e., "Suggested By the stories of Isaac Asimov"), which tells you the movie is loosely based on Asimov's material. (read more here)
Robocop (1987)
Peter Weller stars in this urban sci-fi Western as Murphy, a good cop who literally gets shot to pieces while on duty and winds up reborn as a crime-fighting machine. An ambitious executive (Miguel Ferrer) at OCP, the corporation running the futuristic city of Detroit, fuses Murphy's torso with bulletproof steel limbs and rewires his brain with computer chips so he will have no will of his own. Murphy's former partner (Nancy Allen) tries to help RoboCop remember his human past, but his circuitry blocks whatever dim memories remain. Luckily, a chance encounter with one of his killers wakes up the human essence in RoboCop, causing him to rebel against his programming and commence on a one-cyborg mission of vengeance that leads all the way to the top of OCP. This second English-language film by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is unremittingly brutal, darkly comic, and filled with bits of clever satire and pathos. A special highlight is the hilariously incompetent ED-209, RoboCop's main rival in the department of automated law enforcement. Considered by many critics to be one of the best films of its genre, ROBOCOP was followed by several sequels and a 1994 TV series.
